March 3-4 Weekend

Saturday

Doggy Yoga Fundraiser for the SPCA

Stop. It’s not. I did it too, and it’s not.
This is a yoga-centric fundraising event for the SPCA of Western Quebec, not a hilarious display of dogs bending into yoga shapes. So, leave your dog tied up to his tire in the backyard* and head on down to PranaShanti Yoga Centre to get your animal-themed stretches on.
Items for donation that will be especially appreciated are paper towels, newspapers, dog food, food bowls, old blankets, and towels.
The event looks pretty kid-oriented so you might not want to show up without one.
The cost is by donation. Stick around until the end for a chance to win a gift basket for the pup close to your heart.
PranaShanti Yoga Centre, 52 Armstrong Street. 9:30 am to 10:30am. 613-761-9642.

*if you have a dog tied up outside, you’re a jagwagon. Let him in.

The Last Goddamned Performance Piece
This is the last day to catch this show. I’m not certain what it’s about but any play with a swear right in its title has to be titillating.
The synopsis says it’s about the break up of a performance art group, and “a breakup of a more personal nature.” It’s being presented in the Gladstone theatre which is beyond lovely and so intimate. It’s just a saunter away from Little Italy where you can get your post-entertainment night cap.
The playwright, Jayson McDonald, is from London, Ontario and the play was nominated for a Rideau Award for Best Fringe Production. I expect it to be excellent.
The Gladstone, 900 Gladstone Avenue. $20 ($15 for students) 10pm. 613-233-4523

Sunday
Capital Kings Weekly Drag Show
I don’t have much experience with Drag King shows beyond that time I squeezed a pair of ankle socks into my skinny jeans, became suspicious of how much it suited me, and never met my eyes in the mirror again.
Drag King Sundays are a newly-weekly event so I expect to see one go down at least once in the 40 Sundays left in 2012.
With performers with such awesome names as Jasper Cox, Johnny B. Gud, and Frank-N-Beans you’d have to be a fool not to go down and cheer on the talent. DJ Isabelle spins for this Sunday’s event.
The Lookout Bar, 41 York Street. $4.00 domestic beer and bar rail. 613-789-1624.

All Weekend

Barnyard Break
The event I'm most excited about is the Agricultural Museum's Barn Break. It's all of the cute animalness with none of the slaughterhouse at the end, probably.
This event offers plenty of opportunities to touch (read: pilfer) real, live farm animals. I can sneak a pat during the (adorably alliterate) Cow Care demonstration, the afternoon milking, or possibly while entering my suggestion to name a new spring calf (Geoffery).
There's even a chance to get up close to a chicken and look

right into its reptilian face. Once not so endearing to me, this blog changed my life: bawk! My dumpy landlord doesn’t recognize the awesomeness of having balcony-chickens so I remain poultry-less... for now.
